Saint Patrick’s Day Nashville Benefit
saint patrick’s day nashville benefit
Rocky Top Mountain Coaster presents Saint Patrick’s Day Nashville Benefit. On March 17th $3 from every ticket purchased will go to benefit Nashville Tornado Relief. #NashvilleStrong
Since the storms on Tuesday, March 3, the hospitality industry and the community at large have pulled together to raise money, clean up, and assist victims. Businesses small and large are working together toward recovery after tornadoes ripped through central Tennessee. It was the area’s largest natural disaster since 2010.
There is a reason Tennessee is known as the ‘Volunteer State,’ and there are several ways someone can be a volunteer, either through donating time and efforts, goods and services. If you’d like to make an online donation please visit Nashville Tornado Relief Donation, or find many more ways to help at Nashville Strong.
Every March 17th, the United States becomes an emerald country in celebration of the patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick. Americans wear green clothes, drink green milkshakes and Chicago even dyes its river green. Though St. Patrick’s Day originated in Ireland, the parades, parties, and practice of dyeing rivers green is a purely American tradition and celebration of Irish-American pride.
St. Patrick of Ireland is one of the world’s most popular saints. He was born in Roman Britain, captured as a teenager by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. Years later he escaped and made it back to Britain where a vision prompted his studies for the priesthood. He was later ordained a bishop and sent to take the Gospel to Ireland.
The first color associated with St. Patrick was not green, but a light shade of blue that is still evident on ancient Irish flags. Over time, though, green became the color that symbolized everything Irish. St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the color green because:
- The iconic shamrock used by St. Patrick is green
- Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle for its lush green fields
- Irish folklore has it that you are invisible to leprechauns if you wear the color green, thereby protecting you from these fairy creatures.
